The Austbrokers Group commenced operations in 1985 and has grown to become one of Australia's leading insurance broking networks, comprising Member Firms and Associate Firms, represented in more than 80 locations across the country. The Austbroker Group has traditionally focused on servicing the SME segment and in the year to 30 June 2005 placed over $700 million of premiums for more than 175,000 clients. Austbrokers has a preferred "owner-driver" business model which differentiates it from other major insurance broking organisations. This model allows individual brokers to retain a significant equity interest in their broking businesses as co-owners with Austbrokers. This encourages initiative and dedication and allows the businesses to preserve their local identity and management while at the same time accessing the strategic support, capital and scale benefits of Austbrokers' national broking network. It also provides capacity to manage succession planning issues.
